Nagaland: US Consulate General Kolkata Collaborates with CUTS International to Bolster Cybersecurity for MSMEs

The US Consulate General Kolkata, in partnership with CUTS International, joined forces with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and YouthNet, Nagaland, to host a comprehensive workshop aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Dimapur, Nagaland, to tackle cyber threats effectively.

With a focus on enhancing cyber resilience, the daylong workshop saw active participation from over 40 enterprises, with a notable presence of more than 30 women-led businesses.

This initiative spearheaded by the US Consulate General Kolkata underscores its commitment to bolstering cybersecurity readiness, particularly among small businesses, with a special emphasis on women entrepreneurs across East and Northeast India.

Abhishek Mishra, Additional Director of the Software Technology Park of India (STPI), emphasized the timeliness and relevance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape, urging participants to engage attentively with the workshop’s discussions and insights.

Arnab Ganguly, Associate Director of CUTS International, highlighted the accelerated adoption of digital technologies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left many MSMEs vulnerable to cyber threats due to inadequate safeguards.

Ganguly stressed the workshop’s role in equipping entrepreneurs with essential knowledge and strategies to combat cyber-attacks, potentially reducing vulnerabilities by up to 70 percent. Nuneseno Chase, Director of YouthNet, Nagaland, underscored cybersecurity as a paramount challenge faced by MSMEs globally, emphasizing the critical need for entrepreneurs to identify and mitigate cyber risks effectively.

Key trainers at the workshop included Jai Singh and Shivansh Raghuvanshi, Senior Project Engineer and Knowledge Associate respectively, from C-DAC, Patna, providing participants with practical insights and hands-on training to enhance their cybersecurity posture.

This collaborative initiative signifies a concerted effort to empower MSMEs with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the evolving cybersecurity landscape, fostering resilience and sustainability in the digital era.
