CUTS-Calcutta Resource Centre to operate the solar city Cell of New Town Development Authority (NKDA), Rajarhat, Kolkata

Under the Solar City scheme of MNRE, New Town, Rajarhat is poised to become a model solar city. As an upcoming city, the city has great potential for adoption of modern solar technologies and through this initiative achieves 10 per cent reduction in consumption of conventional energy. New Town Development Authority (NKDA) is the body responsible for all municipal and administrative works of New Town. CUTS CRC has been selected by NKDA to operate the solar city cell since October 2013 and to assist NKDA in implementation of all projects and create awareness among all stakeholders as per the MNRE approved Master Plan.

The Solar City Cell will:

  • Assist New Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) in making New Town, Rajarhat a model solar city.
  • Assist NKDA in networking and organizing Awareness Seminars and, Training Programmes for different stakeholders— New Town inhabitants, Institutions, City planners, Builders, Housing Co-operatives, Schools, Hotels, and Hospitals etc.
  • Assist NKDA in preparation of suitable Rules and Regulations that will promote uptake of Renewable Energy Technologies (RET) and Energy Efficient Technologies (EET) .
  • Facilitate the overall operation and successful implementation of projects as per the master plan of NKDA solar city.
